Getting Paid on Skipper
Charging an entry fee for your auction, or collecting fees at your academy, is the easy part. The question everyone actually asks is the one after it: where does the money go, when does it reach my bank, and what happens when someone wants it back.
This is that answer, for both auctions and academies. The money side works the same way for each.
1. One screen for all of it
Open your profile and tap Money. Everything on this page is about money moving in your direction or out of it, and it has two tabs.
- Earnings is what you have collected and what has been transferred to you. This is the organiser's and the academy owner's tab.
- Payments is money you have paid, like an entry fee for an auction you registered for. Everyone has this tab, whether or not they run anything.
If you run an academy, Money is owner territory. A coach or a manager working your fees does not see your bank account or your transfers.
2. Add your bank account first
Do this before you take your first payment, because of one sentence you will otherwise meet later: fees you collect stay with us until you add a bank account. Nothing is lost, and nothing is stuck permanently. It simply waits, and the waiting is avoidable.
- Open Money and go to Earnings.
- Tap Add bank account.
- Enter the account and IFSC exactly as your bank has them.
You will see Saved. We will check these details before the next payout. That check is a real one, and while it runs the card reads Bank details being checked. A typo in an IFSC is caught here rather than after a failed transfer.
Changing accounts later is Change bank account on the same card. The new details go through the same check, so change them when nothing is mid-transfer if you can.
3. What the payer sees, and what you receive
Skipper's platform fee is 5% plus GST, and the payer pays it on top of your price. Your price reaches you whole.
So if you set an auction entry fee of ₹1,000, the player is shown ₹1,000 plus the fee, itemised in rupees, before they pay anything. Nobody discovers a deduction afterwards, on either side. You see what will reach you; they see what leaves them.
One detail worth knowing if you run an event over several weeks: the fee is fixed to your event when it is priced, not when the money moves. A later change to our rates cannot reach back and restate a receipt you have already issued.
Taking cash instead? Record it in the app and it costs nothing. Cash payments carry no platform fee, and they still show up in your totals so your records stay in one place.
4. Following a payout
Under Earnings, every transfer we make to you appears in Transfers, each with its own reference so you can match it against your bank statement. A transfer moves through states that say what they mean:
- Not ready to go out yet. Collected, counted, not yet sent.
- On the way. Sent to your bank.
- In your bank. Arrived.
- Confirmed by the bank. Settled, and matched against the bank's own confirmation.
Two states ask something of you rather than just reporting. Checking means we are verifying something before it moves. Needs you means it cannot proceed until you act, which in practice almost always means bank details that have not been added or have failed their check. Both are visible on the Earnings tab rather than buried, precisely because a payout that quietly stops is worse than one that says why.
5. Refunds, and the honest bit about timing
For an auction, a refund is not something you have to remember to do. If you reject a registration, or a player withdraws before you approve them, their fee goes back on its own. If you retain a player who has already paid, Skipper tells you their fee will be refunded before you confirm, so the decision is made with the consequence in front of you.
Where it gets more interesting is a refund that comes due after we have already paid you. That happens, and Skipper says so plainly in your Earnings rather than silently netting it off something later: a refund came due after we paid you. You will also see a refund could not be sent if one fails, which is the case where you want to hear from us rather than not.
We deliberately do not move money out of anyone's hands automatically to settle these. A person decides. It is slower than a silent adjustment and it is the right way round.
6. Academy fees, end to end
Academies collect on a schedule rather than one-off, so there is one extra idea: the fee plan. A plan is a price and a billing cycle, say ₹2,000 monthly.
- Create the plan once.
- Assign it to a student, and invoices issue themselves from then on.
- Choose whether billing starts today, in which case the first invoice is raised straight away, or next period, in which case nothing is raised for the current one.
- Add a discount where you need to, with a reason recorded against it.
Parents pay from their phone, and a reminder carries a link that opens the bill itself rather than dropping them on a home screen to hunt for it. You can send reminders in bulk when a month turns. What is paid and what is still due sits on your fees screen, and the money follows the same path through Money as everything else.
The short version
- Add your bank account before your first payment, not after.
- Your price reaches you whole. The payer covers the 5% plus GST, and sees it itemised first.
- Money in your profile is the single place for collected, transferred, and paid.
- Auction refunds for rejections and withdrawals happen on their own.
- Cash is free to record, and still counted.
