Chat and Messages on Skipper
Most cricket admin still happens in a WhatsApp group where the fixture, the payment reminder and somebody's holiday photos share a scroll. Skipper has messaging built in, next to the cricket it is about, so a question about Sunday's game is attached to Sunday's game.
It is the speech-bubble icon at the top of your home screen. If it has a number on it, someone is waiting.
1. Message another player
- Tap the chat icon in the header on Home. It is also a row in your profile menu, whichever your thumb reaches first.
- Tap to start a new conversation and search for a player by name.
- Pick them, and say hello.
You can start a chat with someone from wherever you have found them in the app, so a player you have just seen top the batting table is a tap away rather than a search away.
Two things you may notice. Someone who has not joined Skipper shows as Not on Skipper yet, which is a nudge to invite them rather than a dead end. And a player who cannot receive messages reads as Not reachable, which is honest about the outcome instead of letting you type into nothing.
2. The rules that keep it civil
A messaging feature attached to a directory of thousands of cricketers is a spam problem waiting to happen, so two limits exist by design.
- One message, then wait. Your first message to someone new goes through, and then you wait for them to reply before you can send another. In the app it reads: waiting for recipient to respond before you can send more messages.
- A daily cap on new conversations. You can start a limited number of fresh chats per day. Talking to people you already know is unaffected.
Neither limit touches a conversation once it is two-way. They exist so that being findable on Skipper never becomes a reason to regret it.
3. Reaching an organiser
If you have registered for a player auction and need to reach whoever is running it, there is a button in the auction to start that chat. No hunting for a number, and no posting a question into a group of forty people who cannot answer it.
4. Academy enquiries
An academy's public page carries a Contact admin button. A visitor taps it, sends their question, and the academy can reply.
Who sees what here is deliberate, and worth stating plainly. The academy sees the visitor's name, and never their phone number. The visitor never sees who the owner is. A parent asking about batches for their child is not handing their number to a stranger, and an academy owner is not exposing a personal line to the public internet.
For the academy, every enquiry lands in a Requests inbox and gets worked from one place, instead of being a phone number someone wrote in a WhatsApp status at eleven at night.
5. Getting help from us
Open Help & Support from your profile menu. Read the quick answers to common questions, and if none of them fit, start a chat with the Skipper team. A support conversation can be marked resolved when it is done, so your inbox does not fill up with things that are finished.
If your question is about a specific payment, bring the transfer reference from your Money tab. It is the fastest way for us to find the exact rupee you are asking about.
The short version
- The chat icon is in the home screen header, badged with your unread count.
- You can message any player, and start from wherever you found them.
- A first message to a stranger waits for their reply, and new conversations are capped daily.
- Auction registrants can reach the organiser directly.
- Academy enquiries arrive without exposing anybody's phone number.
- Support is a chat, not a ticket form.
