You do not have to play to care about a team. Parents wait for the under-14s to bat. Until now you had to remember to look.

With team follow, you tell Skipper which teams matter to you, and it brings their matches to you.

Follow a Team

  1. Open the team's page. You can find it by searching for the team's name.
  2. Tap Follow in the banner at the top of the page.

The button turns lime and reads Following. A couple of seconds later it shrinks to just the heart, to save space. To stop following, tap the heart again. You can do this whenever you like.

What You Get

If you follow both teams in the same match, you still get one notification, not two.

Your usual notification settings apply. If you have switched match updates off, or you have quiet hours set, Skipper respects both.

Followers on the Team Page

The team page shows how many people follow the team, for example 12 followers, right beside the Follow button. Only the number is shown. Skipper never shows a list of who the followers are, so following a team does not put your name on display.

The same count appears on the team's page on the Skipper website. Following itself happens in the app.

For Captains and Coaches

If you run a team, tell your supporters to follow it. The parents of a junior side get an update at the start of every match without anyone posting in the WhatsApp group. When your team page is complete, with a good name and logo, the notification looks right too. Our team guide shows how to set that up.

A Note When You Sign Up

When you first set up Skipper, it can ask which team you follow. If you name one, Skipper follows it for you, so your Home screen is not empty on day one.
