← Back to How-To A cricket club ground

Most clubs run on a WhatsApp group, a register in somebody's bag and one secretary who knows where everything is. Skipper gives the club a page of its own: teams, matches, tournaments, stats and a proper list of members, in one place that everyone can open. Anyone can start a club, and it takes a couple of minutes.

Find Clubs, or Start Yours

Open the menu and tap Clubs. You will see a directory you can search by name, city or district. Clubs you help run are listed first under You manage, and every other club sits under Directory.

To start your own, tap the + at the top (its tooltip reads "Create a club"). The wizard has two steps, Details and Logo & about. Give the club a name and a city. You can pin the ground on the map if you like. The logo and the about text are both optional, and you can tap Skip for now and add them later. Tap Create club and you land on a "Your club is live" screen with a few next steps: add teams, add staff, start a season and get verified.

The Blue Tick

A club that Skipper has checked carries a blue tick beside its name. To ask for one, open More in your club and tap Get verified, then Send request. Tell the Skipper team a little about the club and we will take a look. Until then the club works exactly the same, it just does not have the tick.

Inside the Club

A club opens as a small app of its own, with five tabs along the bottom: Home, Matches, Tournaments, Stats and More. The round Back button on the left of the bar takes you back to the rest of Skipper. The club name sits at the top with the blue tick if it has one, and the share icon sends a link to the club's public page.

Teams and Seasons

In More, open Teams and tap the + ("Add a team") to bring in the sides the club fields. A season groups the year's cricket: open Seasons under the Club heading to create one, make it the active one and reorder them. Staff who manage seasons see those options right in the row.

Registering Players

This is how a club builds its member list without chasing photos on WhatsApp.

Tournaments in the Club

On the Tournaments tab, staff see a + ("Add a tournament"). It offers two choices: Create a tournament to start a new one inside the club, or Add a tournament I run to bring in one you already organise. Only the tournament's owner can add it to a club, and its teams, matches and organisers stay as they were.

Tap the three dots on a tournament the club runs to open its options. Season & tags lets you file it under a season and add tags such as "U-19" or "Night". Visitors can then filter the list by tag. Next edition starts a fresh copy for next year with the same settings and tags but no teams or matches, and Remove from club takes it off the list. For how to run the tournament itself, see How to Organize a Tournament in Skipper.

Staff and Officials

Open Staff in More and tap + ("Add staff"). Find the person by mobile number or email. They need a Skipper account. Pick a role, from Admin and Secretary to Registrar, Manager, Selector and Coach. Each role shows a one-line note on what it can do. Tap a person in the list to change their role, or remove them.

Umpires, scorers and referees go in Officials. Tap + ("Add an official"), fill in their name, phone and grade, and link their Skipper account by mobile number or email. A linked official can score the club's matches, and the list shows a Can score tag beside them. If someone is away, switch them off with the Available toggle and they stay on the list but cannot score. If you were added as an official and no longer want to be, More has a "Stop scoring for this club" row so you can take yourself off.

One more for the committee: Club report in More gives you the numbers a committee usually asks for.
